A Commitment to Empowering Young Women and Girls!

My Age Zimbabwe joined the global community in commemorating International Women’s Day, observed annually on March 8th, in style through the launch of the Sarue Hotline, a dedicated sexual and reproductive health hotline offering vital information and counselling services, specifically tailored to meet the needs of young women and girls.

The rationale behind this initiative is rooted in the understanding of the vulnerabilities and systemic barriers faced by young women and girls in Zimbabwe.

Access to comprehensive sexual and reproductive health services and information remains a significant obstacle, hindering their ability to make informed choices about their bodies, their health, and their futures

This lack of access is further compounded by cultural stigmas, misinformation, and inadequate support systems, leaving many young women and girls feeling isolated, disempowered, and vulnerable to exploitation and abuse.

The Saru Hotline represents a tangible demonstration of this commitment.

It is more than just a telephone service; it is a lifeline, a safe space, and a source of reliable information designed to empower young women and girls to take control of their sexual and reproductive health.

The hotline will offer a range of services, including:

  • Comprehensive Sexual and Reproductive Health Information: Providing accurate and up-to-date information on topics such as contraception, sexually transmitted infections (STIs), HIV/AIDS prevention, menstrual hygiene management, and safe abortion practices (where legal and permissible within the Zimbabwean legal framework)
  • Counselling Services: Offering confidential and empathetic counselling support to young women and girls facing challenges related to sexual and reproductive health, including unwanted pregnancies, gender-based violence, and relationship issues.
  • Referral Services: Connecting callers with appropriate healthcare providers and support organizations for further assistance and treatment
  • Education and Awareness Campaigns: Utilizing the hotline as a platform to disseminate information and raise awareness about sexual and reproductive health issues through targeted messaging and outreach activities.

The launch of the Sarue Hotline on International Women’s Day signifies a significant milestone for My Age Zimbabwe. It is a testament to our unwavering commitment to empowering young women and girls to live healthy, fulfilling lives.
